Cloudy skies, showers today

Cloudy skies will prevail over the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces today (13), says the Met Department.

Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya and Matale districts.

Heavy showers of around 100mm can be expected at some places in the North-Central and Eastern provinces and in the Matale district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the evening or night.

Heavy showers of more than 100mm can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and western provinces, and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces in the morning.

The Department requests the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
