Several new digital initiatives including Digital NIC from next year
The National Identity Card (NIC) of Sri Lanka will be digitized
during the first quarter of 2022, State Minister of Digital Technology Namal
Rajapaksa said today.
Minister Rajapaksa said the public will be issued
world-class digital NICs from next year.
“Similar to receiving the same number for both the birth and
death certificates, the digital NIC will be provided so that it could be
detected via fingerprint, facial or eye recognitions, and bio-metric systems,”
he said.
Minister Namal Rajapaksa said measures are also being taken
to profile health, agriculture, and fertilizer cards to be digitized from next
year.
He also said that as part of the digitizing process in Sri
Lanka, even paying of traffic fines will be digitized
