State minister Arundika Fernando announces resignation


State Minister of Coconut, Kithul and Palmyrah Cultivation Promotion and Related Industrial Product Manufacturing & Export Diversification, Arundika Fernando has announced his resignation.

Fernando announced that he will resign from his ministerial post until a thorough investigation is conducted into the recent attack on the Ragama Medical Faculty hostel. 

Over the incident, his 23-year-old son, Avinda Randila Jehan Fernando, and fiver others were remanded by the Wattala Magistrate's Court till Monday (07).

So far, seven suspects are under arrest over the incident on the night of 01 February at the hostel of the Ragama medical faculty that left four medical students injured.

Earlier, State Minister Fernando said he would resign from his portfolio if he was found to be involved in the incident, and promised to take action if against anyone linked to him was involved, and requested the President that an impartial inquiry be conducted.
