Reappoint former chairpersons to committees - Sajith
Whilst stating that Parliament was prorogued to sweep important scams which Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) in particular had uncovered, under the carpet, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday challenged the government to reappoint former chairpersons of these committees once again.
“Parliament was prorogued suddenly to sweep important scams uncovered by committees such as COPA, COPE and Public Finance. COPA in particular uncovered misuse of Rs 490 million that has been allocated to resolve the human elephant conflict, compost scam of Kurunegala Municipal Council and the selling of 65,000 perches of land in Muthurajawala at Rs 500 per perch.
One reason for the proroguing of the House was to cover up these scams,” Mr. Premadasa said in Mulkirigala yesterday.
“I challenge the government to prove I am wrong. Government can do it by re-appointing MP Tissa Vitharana as the head of COPA, Charitha Herath as the head of COPE and Anura Yapa as the Head of Committee on Public Finance,” he added.
