Weather Today (18) Showery condition prevails most of the parts of the Island, 100mm downpours expect in the NP

  


According to the weather forecast notice issued by the Department of Meteorology for 18 November 2021 the low-pressure area located to the north-east of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal is moving westwards and will reach south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts today.

Showers or thunder showers will occur at times in Northern, North-Central, North-Western Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts. Heavy showers above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Northern province and fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected at some places in North-Western province and in Anuradhapura district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere particularly during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Strong winds up to 40-50 kmph can be expected in Northern and North-Central provinces.

Department of Meteorology  requests general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

 Mean time the advisory for Heavy Rain Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre Issued at 01.00 p.m. 17th November 2021, valid until 01.00 p.m. 18th November 2021 for Northern Province and in Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee districts

According to the notice, the low pressure area located over central Bay of Bengal is likely to move westwards and reach south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts on 18th November 2021.

Under the influence of the low pressure area, heavy showers above 100 mm can be expectedat some places in Northern province and in Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Trincomaleedistricts.
