Digital traffic spot fine from January 2022
The process to enable e-payments for traffic offences has
been launched in Sri Lanka.
The online process was launched under the aegis of Justice
Minister Ali Sabry, Transport Minister Pavithra Wanniarchchi, State Minister of
Digital Technology Namal Rajapaksa, and Public Security Minister Sarath
Weerasekara.
Coordinating Secretary to the Ministry of Justice Shamir
Zavahir said the laws necessary to enable online payments and the required
infrastructure are being finalized.
He further said the new online process will prevent visits
to the Post office as well as confiscated licences, which is the regular
process followed at present.
Commenting on the launch, Minister Namal Rajapaksa said the
Sri Lanka Police render a great service to the public, and uphold law and order
in the country.
He further said the digitalization of their services is
under way in order to create a more efficient service to the public.
“The Transport Minister along with the Sri Lanka Police will
introduce spot fining from January 2022 as the first step,” Minister Rajapaksa
announced
