Player draft of LPL 2021 takes place today
The player draft of the second edition of the Lanka Premier
League 2021 will be held today (09).
It was rescheduled from 04 November, following a request by
several franchise owners, owing to the draft coinciding with the ‘Diwali’
festival period. Issuing a statement, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said a total of
600 players, 300 each of local and overseas players, will feature in the draft,
which will be held virtually with the participation of the five franchise
owners and the SLC officials. The draft will consist of 20 rounds, covering
several player categories, such as ‘local and overseas icon player’, ‘local and
overseas diamond player’, ‘local and overseas gold player’, and ‘local and
overseas classic player’.
There will also be ‘local emerging’ and ‘supplementary
local’ rounds focusing on selecting Sri Lanka’s young talent.
A squad will consist of 20 players, with 14 local and six
overseas players.
A team can retain eight players, four each of local and
overseas players) from the previous year’s squad, whilst the rest will have to
be picked from the upcoming ‘player draft.’
