Child COVID infections less compared to senior citizens : DDGHS
The Ministry of Health claims only a low percentage of children are infected by the coronavirus in comparison to senior citizens and immuno-compromised individuals.
Quoting present statistics, Deputy Director General of
Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said children are less likely to contract
COVID-19 and suffer from complications and therefore, noted that they have
decided not to expose children to the vaccine.
He said that since they do not have adequate data to support
that children face serious complications, they have delayed administering
vaccines to certain groups of children.
However, he added that if research findings and data support
the need to vaccinate children, then they will not hesitate to administer the
vaccines.
