Plans underway to resume international flights from Ratmalana
Plans have been made to resume regional international
flights from the Ratmalana Airport, after five decades.
The Ministry of Tourism said the first scheduled flight will
take off from the Ratmalana Airport to the Maldives from next month.
While the Ratmalana International Airport was opened in
1938, with flights commencing from the Katunayake International Airport in
1968, regional international flights did not operate from Ratmalana.
The Ratmalana Airport is due to be developed as a regional
international airport centres on India and the Maldives.
The government recently decided to remove landing and
parking fees for flights and the airport service tax for passengers for a
period of one year, to promote flights at the Ratmalana Airport.
