New wave of COVID-19 if irresponsible behavior continues, Minister warns

State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said that a new wave of COVID-19 is emerging around the world and the number of patients and deaths was increasing with that wave.

The State Minister said while visiting the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweli Seya Friday he observed a large number of people had gathered and urged the people not to mistakenly think that the threat from the Covid-19 virus has completely gone away although the number of cases and deaths reduced.

"I remind you that you are in a country where more than 200 people died two weeks ago because of Covid," he said urging the people to follow health guidelines.

He said that no one could say that the virus would not change in the future, adding that despite the restrictions on travel between provinces, people were flocking to shrines and ceremonies, setting a bad precedent.

Prof. Channa Jayasumana further stated that the vaccination program in the country has reached its final stage and all the details related to the purchase of vaccines related to the Covid control vaccination program will be revealed in the future.
