The Lulka Airport ( LUA) Nepal is the most dangerous airport in the world. LUA holding this record is for 20 years. in 2008 the airport named as the Tenzing- Hillary, in honer of the two who first conquer mount Everest. the altitude of the airport is 9333 ft. due to very short landing and take off strip and having lesser facilities including electricity and no modern air traffic control features, Even landing is very difficult due to the pilot has to navigate through the hilly region in high wind and poor visibility. this airport located it the base camp of mount Everest.
The runways' edge is a cliff with a 700 m drop and the airport is often closes due to bad weather.
in 2019 a Nepal plane crashed in the airport and 3 people died. two pilots died in a similar circumstance in 2018.In 2008, 18 people, including 12 Germans, were killed when a plane tried to land there.
only experience pilots are allowed to land at Lukla. they must have made at least 100 landings and takeoffs on short runaways and worked in unfavorable weather conditions for at least one year in Nepal
