Protective sticker for all liquor bottles

The Excise Department is introducing a special sticker for liquor bottles with the aim of earning more excise income and to prevent illicit products from entering the market.

The protective sticker will begin to be pasted on all locally-produced and imported liquor bottles from 03 January 2022, said excise commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe.

With a three-month grace period given to meet the requirement for the bottles already produced, the expectation is to ensure the sticker in all liquor bottles by 01 April, he said.

The Department presently earns Rs. 140 billion in excise each year, and this move is expected to bring in more revenue
