Gas issue : PM to intervene

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has called on a special
meeting on Tuesday (21st) to discuss about the LP gas explosions being reported
in the country and the alleged substandard LP gas issued to the market.
According to the Mawbima newspaper, the PM has called on all
related stakeholders including heads of Litro and Laughs gas companies, members
of the special committee appointed in to inquiring gas related accidents and
officers of Consumer Affairs Authority, Sri Lanka Standards institute, Ceylon
Petroleum cooperation and Police chiefs.
Government sources say that the purpose of this meeting is
to find out the root cause behind the gas related incidents and discuss and
take necessary steps to rectify the matter, including the feedback and findings
from the committee appointed by the President.
