Dumbara mats inscribed as world cultural heritage
Sri Lanka’s Dumbara mats have been recognized as a world cultural heritage.
UNESCO yesterday (15) officially inscribed the ‘traditional craftsmanship of making Dumbara Ratā Kalāla’ on its prestigious Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The announcement was made by UNESCO at its 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at its headquarters in Paris.
Dumbara mats are traditional hand-made mats used as wall hangings, tapestries or cushion covers.
