Weather Today (17) fairly heavy rains above 75 mm possible in several areas.

 

According to the weather forecast notice issued by the Department of Meteorology for 17 november 2021 showers or thunder showers will occur at times in Northern, North-Central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm can be expected at some places.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere particularly during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places.

Department of Meteorology requests general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

 In the meantime the advisory note issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre for East Central Bay of Bengal, South East Bay of Bengal Sea Areas and Arabian Sea  valid until 10.pm today. According to the red alert  the low pressure area in the North Andaman Sea area is likely to move West-Northwestwards and become well marked low pressure over east-central & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.

Arabian Sea

A Low Pressure Area is likely to form over east-central Arabian Sea off south Maharashtra coast during

next 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards & become more marked during the subsequent 48 hours.

Sea Condition

Accordingly there can be very heavy showers or thundershowers, strong winds 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph associated with rough seas over the aforementioned sea area and the sea areas around the Island.
