Slight increase in Covid patients and deaths

For the fourth day in a row, the number of Covid-19 cases reported on a daily basis touched the 700 mark yesterday (14).

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said that 698 new infections were identified yesterday (14).

With that, the number of daily infections touched the 700 mark for the fourth consecutive day since the 11th October. Also, 718 cases were identified on the 9th.

The Family Physicians Association says there has been a clear increase in the number of Covid infections reported in the past week compared to the previous week.

Its Chairperson Dr. Malkanthi Galhena stated that the number of Covid patients receiving home treatment has also increased in the last few days.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 deaths reported on a daily has also increased. The Department of Government Information stated that the death toll from Covid infections has crossed 20 in the last three days.

There were 23 deaths reported due to Covid-19 yesterday (14). Out of those, 17 were aged 60 and over, and 6 were between the ages of 30 and 59.

Health authorities have urged people to strictly comply with health guidelines and practices in order to control the situation.
