Four Nations International Football Tournament to kick off today
The Opening ceremony of the Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021
Four Nations International Football Tournament will be held at the Racecourse
Stadium in Colombo at 3.00 PM today. The
FIFA-approved international football tournament will commence with the opening
match between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Experienced skipper Sujan Perera will lead the Lankan camp
which took part in the SAFF Soccer Tournament in the Maldives.
Meanwhile, President of the Republic of Maldives Ibrahim
Mohamed Solih arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday to attend the Four Nations
International Football Tournament.
The President of the Maldives and his wife were welcomed by
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.
Ibrahim Solih will attend the Four Nations International
Football Tournament as the Chief Guest on the invitation extended by President
Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The football tournament is the first of its kind to be held
in Sri Lanka and will be conducted by the Football Sri Lanka (FSL) in
conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The first-ever International tournament conducted by the FSL
will attract teams from Bangladesh, Maldives, Seychelles, and host Sri Lanka.
The curtain raiser fixture which was to be held between
Bangladesh and Seychelles was postponed to today (09) due to bad weather.
