Dengue cases on the rise
The National Dengue Control Unit commenced a special
prevention programme today (08), as the number of dengue cases in the country
is surging. The program, which will run till 13 November, will take place
across 59 high-risk MOH areas located within the Western and Eastern Provinces.
Authorities hope to obtain the services of the three armed forces and the
Police for this programme.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 15,530
suspected dengue cases were reported from across the island from January 2021
to date.
It added that in 2020, the total number of dengue cases in Sri Lanka was 31,162. The Unit emphasized that it is very important to seek medical attention in the event of fever and to do relevant laboratory tests at least by day three of the illness.
