WeChat makes content searchable on Google, Bing
WeChat has made its content searchable on some foreign
search engines such as Google and Microsoft’s Bing, according to Reuters
checks.
WeChat’s content, including articles and videos on its
popular public accounts page, a feature similar to a news portal, has opened up
to external search engines, other than its own search engine Sogou, these last
days.
The Tencent-owned messaging app also announced last month
that it would start allowing users to access external links, days after
regulators asked the company and its rivals to end a practice. long standing of
blocking each other’s links.
Chinese tech giants have historically prevented rivals’
links and services from sharing on their platforms. However, regulators have
said they are ordering companies to rectify this as the practice affects user
experience and infringes on consumer rights.
