Thousands of students join School Strike 4 Climate to demand stronger climate change action
The third School Strike 4 Climate was held at more than 20
locations around the nation, while about a dozen rallies were held online due
to COVID-19 restrictions.
In Melbourne, 300 people logged on to virtually take part in
the rally while nearly 900 joined online in Sydney.
On the same day the rallies were held, Prime Minister Scott
Morrison confirmed he would go to the United Nation's global climate summit in
Glasgow due to begin in two weeks, after weeks of uncertainty about his
attendance.
Mr Morrison has not yet struck a deal with the Nationals over the climate and energy policy Australia will bring to Glasgow, including whether Australia will commit to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 — a target the majority of Australians support.
