President Rajapaksa to attend Kushinagar Airport’s opening
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will attend the opening of the new Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20 October, according to Indian media.
President Rajapaksa will be accompanied by a two-dozen-member official delegation and 125 Buddhist monks, News18 said.
Modi will land in Kushinagar from Delhi and Rajapaskha will fly in directly from Colombo to the new airport.
This SriLankan Airlines flight will be the first international flight to land in Kushinagar.
A major Buddhist pilgrimage site, Kushinagar sees a high number of foreign tourists, including from Sri Lanka each year.
