Legal approval given to implement number portability in Sri Lanka

 

Sri Lanka has granted legal approval for number portability services, announced by Oshada Senanayake, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission. He said all service providers were informed earlier this week about the go-ahead to create a central database for all subscribers.

“A central database is needed to map numbers and we have studied processes from other countries,” he said.

Number portability is most likely to be available in May 2022, where all technical aspects are met.

Number portability (MNP) allows mobile phone users to retain their mobile number when changing from one mobile network carrier to another.
