Good news for South Africans traveling to Australia
Qantas Airways is preparing for a full return to work ahead
of the accelerated reopening of the Australian border in the coming months.
In a statement on Friday (October 22), the national airline
said all Australian employees at Qantas are expected to return to work in early
December, with flights to South Africa set to resume months ahead of schedule.
While the airline previously announced that flights between
Australia and South Africa would resume in April 2022 at the earliest, Qantas
said it would now resume flights to Johannesburg from Jan.5, 2022, three months
ahead of schedule.
This will include three return flights per week which will
be operated by 787 planes, he said. Qantas also plans to resume other
international flights during the same period, including connections to Delhi,
Singapore and Bangkok.
“Faster ramp-up follows confirmation by Federal and New
South Wales governments that international borders will reopen from November 1,
2021 and the NSW government’s decision to remove quarantine requirements for
fully vaccinated arrivals – dramatically increasing travel demand, ”the airline
said.
