Bribery Commission receives 1.440 complaints this year
From January 1 to the end of July this
year, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption
(CIABOC) has received 1,440 complaints, according to an official of the
Commission.
Out of these complaints, 438 bribery or corruption
complaints and 58 assets complaints have already been directed for
investigation and 46 raids had been carried out on those complaints, a
spokesman for the Bribery and Corruption Commission told media
The Commission has had to close 633 of these complaints due
to lack of sufficient data. He also said that 225 complaints have been
forwarded to other institutions and 38 reports have been called.
Meanwhile, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have
arrested a Divisional Agrarian Development Officer serving Agrarian Services
Centre, Pahalagam Haya, Miriswatta, Bentota on alleged soliciting and accepting
a bribe of Rs. 25,000 on 25th October in response to a complaint received from
a farmer residing at Aluthgama.
The suspect had solicited Rs. 100,000s in order to provide
Forest Journals to plant coconut and other crops (minor crops) and he had
accepted Rs.15,000 initially from the complainant. The suspected officer was
arrested when he had again solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 25,000.
