The University Grants Commission (UGC) plans to open universities soon
The University Grants Commission (UGC) plans to open
universities soon by providing both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to all
academic and non-academic staff members.
Issuing a statement in this regard, UGC Chairman Prof.
Sampath Amaratunga said a program has been implemented in collaboration with
the health sector.
He said that both doses of the vaccine will be administered
to academic and non-academic staff above the age of 30 at all
universities.
Additionally, all universities have been instructed to
coorindate with the nearest health care centres in the relevant districts to
take immediate action for the vaccination of academic and non-academic staff
and students under the age of 30.
UGC will directly supervise the methodology implemented to
oversee the progress of the vaccination program for staff and students under
the age of 30 in universities.
Universities will be reopened in the near future in view of
this progress after discussions with health authorities, the Vice Chancellors
of the Universities and other relevant parties
