Special concessions for new International Airlines to Mattala - Minister Prasanna Ranatunga

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that a special relief package will be implemented for airlines that start scheduled flights at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport

The aim is to attract international airlines to the Mattala Airport. Accordingly, international airlines that have not previously operated at Mattala Airport have proposed not to charge an airport emigration tax of US $ 60 for a period of two years from the date of commencement of operations at the airport. Concessions are also planned for aircraft landing and parking charges.

Accordingly, discounts will be given for four years from the date of commencement of operations at Mattala Airport. Landing and parking charges will be 100% exempt in the first year, 75% in the second year, 50% in the third year and 25% in the fourth year.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that if any airline enters into an agreement to operate at least one scheduled flight per week at Mattala Airport, it is also considering a 50% discount on first year landing and landing charges at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has pointed out that the Kovid 19 pandemic has significantly affected the global aviation industry and as a result the entire aviation industry is in crisis. Accordingly, it was planned to implement this relief package targeting airlines who wish to start new airlines for the Mattala Airport and steps have been taken to submit a relevant Cabinet Memorandum to the Cabinet for approval.
