No inter-provincial trains, buses for another two weeks from tomorrow (1st Oct): Dilum Amunugama
No inter-provincial trains and bus services for another two
weeks, even after lifting the quarantine curfew on October 1, Transport State
Minister Dilum Amunugama said.
The decision was taken following a special discussion with
the Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday.
As such, only buses will run within the provinces, but no
trains, the State Minister said.
"The Transport Ministry had been advised not to resume
the train services due to lack of seats in compartments and most of the
commuters used to travel by trains standing," he said.
It was also decided that transporting passengers exceeding
the seating capacity will not be allowed, and the IGP has been advised to take
strict legal action if standees are found travelling in the buses. The bus services
will continue to operate within the province, and operations crossing
provincial borders will not be allowed for two weeks starting tomorrow, he
said.
